Business Opportunities Blog
The Business Opportunities Blog has a ton of ideas for legitimate businesses for entreprenuers and advice on how to start your own business.
Apparently since 2001, Dane Carlson has helped thousands of individuals in their quest for starting a business.
He had a post on an entrepreneur self-assesment test.
Do you have what it takes?
Intuition: You may often feel torn between “going with your feelings” and finding a logical, step-by-step approach to decision-making. Good intuition can be a tremendous asset in identifying and pursuing new business opportunities. Compared to corporate executives, people who start successful businesses are typically fare more intuitive in their decision-making. If you also scored high in “Decisiveness”, you likely have what it takes to be successful. Sometimes, you find it difficult to justify your decisions to other people based on observable facts. If you find yourself trying to rely heavily on facts, you may find it helpful to have some more intuitive people around to advise you as your business grows.
Focus:
You scored in the middle on this dimension. You tend to rely on facts and figures most of the time. However, you also rely on your gut feelings for some decisions. You should try to rely on your intuition more if you want to be successful in business.
Opportunity Seeking: You see business opportunities all around you. You have a good eye for changing trends and markets! You are quick to see a potential niche. At times, in fact, you may become confused by the sheer number of opportunities confronting you.
Focus:
Just remember that not all business opportunities will necessarily suit you. You are looking for the one that
best matches your distinctive skills and strengths.
Perseverance: You try and try again, regardless of the setbacks and personal sacrifices involved. Rather than becoming discouraged by failure, you try to learn from your mistakes.
Focus:
Perseverance is a key characteristic of successful business starters. Many actually failed in their first or second try but, ultimately, went on to success.
Problem Solving: You may not see problem solving as one of your strengths. You may often be tempted to wait and see if a problem will take care of itself, but you can develop the confidence to tackle problems “head on”.
Focus:
Most of the time, your problem-solving skills will be an asset in your business. But, at times you will try to avoid solving problems, and this can hurt your business. Good problem-solving skills are necessary in any business, so try to view problems as opportunities to develop and improve your business, rather than as annoyances.
Risk Tolerance: You have a good ability to weigh risk against security and stability. Although people who start businesses are often thought of as “risk-takers”, this is not how they see themselves. Convinced that they will succeed, they tend to discount the real risks involved. You are able to realistically assess risks that others might miss. You may feel uncomfortable placing yourself in situations involving high risk, such as going heavily into debt to launch your business. However, you need to be careful not to let yourself become excessively cautious in avoiding risk..
Focus:
Depending on the situation, you generally try to balance risk with stability. However, you may tend to pass up good opportunities because you want to avoid what you perceive are unnecessary risks . To be successful in business, you must be confident of your ability to accept and manage risks.
Self Confidence: You may have difficulty in giving yourself credit for your successes. A high level of self-confidence would help you in persevering in the face of obstacles, persuading lenders and winning customers. If you do not allow yourself to become discouraged by setbacks, you will develop a stronger belief in your own abilities.
Focus:
Your self-confidence will be of great help in persuading potential lenders and in winning customers for your business. Try not to let yourself become discouraged by setbacks.
Social Skills: Although you are not necessarily much of a “joiner,” you are comfortable with most types of people and in most social situations. You can be persuasive when you want to be. Some people may think of you as charming, even “charismatic”.
Focus:
Many successful entrepreneurs demonstrate such strong social skills.–>
