I watch free TV on the internet. Go to watchtvsitcoms.com for free movies and HBO shows. Click on Myp2p.eu for just about any spoting event in the world. It's all free. I even see PPV Boxing matches free and blacked out NFL games. Okay, so it's not hi-def...but my cable bill is zero.

Nice post!
I agree re: the TV. I have an 11-year old 19" TV that works just fine....and I'm also watching very little of it and spending more (probably too much) time online. I'd probably go TV-free but I like to watch movies.

Actually I'm really waiting for iTV which will finally put to rest the propagandized news we get since we will have hundreds of options for news right on our TV's instead of just a few news outlets giving us the same crap!

Yep, many people virtually worship TV. I've even met some whose TV set was more expensive than their car. The ad frequency on TV is quite annoying even in the Czech Republic, where they only air every 25 minutes or so. Popular German non-state TVs Pro7 and Sat1 feel like 15 mins of programming and 10 mins of ads. It just boggles my mind why anyone would want to accept such torture. This became even more puzzling since we got rid of TV completely and don't plan to get one. After a few months spent TV-free, viewing any channel feels like you accidentally got into really bad brainwashing future.
Happy Thanksgiving!

I have a big screen TV. I do watch a bit of TV, but I multitask with other activities. HD Cable for me costs nothing more than regular cable. Plus you could ditch cable completely and get an HDTV antenna. As far as the ads go, I have a DVR which eliminates that threat. I more than I have to for it. One could build one with an old Linux box and open source software. It just takes a cheap TV card and a bit of time/research.
